Corey Williams is a writer, photographer, educator, creator & civic leader based in the southern foothills of Virginia. A lifelong southerner with Appalachian leanings — his work intersects art, media, literacy & education: driven by a mission for opportunities for marginalized communities & a vision for a more honest, inclusive & forward-leaning South.
Corey spent five years in the world of public education, teaching ninth-grade English, publications, media & AVID before transitioning to higher education & public service. Corey holds a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction, additional graduate work in English & Communication & a Doctor of Education in Curriculum & Instruction. He believes in learning beyond the classroom — in life & through stories.
At his core, Corey is both a creative & a proud educator. He sees stories everywhere: in faces, in landscapes, in moments most people overlook. He takes a stream-of-consciousness narrative approach to work, both visually & written, sharing stories about adventure, solitude, friendship, serendipity & the open road. When he’s not teaching or serving his community, you’ll find him reading something old, writing something new, chasing the sun, or collecting stories with his right-paw dog, Atticus.
MISSION, VISION & VALUES STATEMENT
My mission is to create meaningful, progessive opportunities for all communities through storytelling, education & creative expression — bridging art, media, literacy, and grassroots community advocacy to foster equitable opportunities for all. My vision is to collect, create & share stories that are honest, inclusive & forward-looking — where diverse voices are heard, experiences are shared authentically & every community can thrive with respect and opportunity.
